The College Swimming League (“CSL”) operates this website to provide collegiate swimming news, features, and fan engagement. Our website address is https://www.collegeswimmingleague.com.

Information We Collect

Comments

When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the comment form along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. An anonymized hash of your email may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. After approval, your profile image (if any) becomes visible with your comment. See Gravatar’s policy: automattic.com/privacy.

Media Uploads

If you upload images, avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract location data from images on the site.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience (lasts one year). A temporary cookie is set on the login page to check if your browser accepts cookies (discarded when you close the browser). When you log in, we set cookies to save your login and display preferences. Login cookies last two days; display options last one year. Selecting “Remember Me” keeps you logged in for two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies. If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie storing the post ID may be set for one day.

Embedded Content

Articles may include embedded content (e.g., videos, social posts). Embedded content from other websites behaves as if you visited those sites directly and may collect data, use cookies, include third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that service.

Analytics & Email Marketing

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand traffic and usage patterns. Google Analytics may process truncated IP addresses, device/browser info, and page interactions. Mailchimp (Email Subscriptions)

If you subscribe to CSL updates, we collect your name and email to deliver newsletters via Mailchimp. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email. Mailchimp privacy: mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/.

Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell or rent personal data. We share information only with service providers that help us operate the site (e.g., analytics, email delivery, spam detection), under agreements that limit their use of your information. If you request a password reset, your IP address may be included in the reset email.

How Long We Retain Your Data

• Comments: kept indefinitely so we can recognize and auto-approve follow-ups.
• Registered users: profile information is stored until you edit or delete it (site administrators can view and edit this information).

Your Rights

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you may request an exported file of your personal data we hold, including any data you’ve provided. You may also request that we erase your personal data. This does not include data we must retain for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Where Your Data Is Sent

Visitor comments and form submissions may be checked through automated spam-detection services (e.g., Akismet). Analytics data is processed by Google Analytics; email subscription data is processed by Mailchimp.

Data Security

We use SSL encryption and reasonable technical/organizational safeguards to protect personal data. However, no system is 100% secure; please use the site accordingly.

Children’s Privacy

Our site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect operational, legal, or regulatory changes. We will post updates here with a new effective date.
